On November 1, 2013, I scored this on eBay for almost $500. I could have looked for the cheaper one because I didn't know of getting a better spec one for that much money at that time. I was looking for a smaller decent spec laptop to carry with me to Jamaica with and back instead of carrying my 17" HP anyway. By the way this thing came with a 250GB Toshiba HDD which was upgraded to a 500GB Seagate, and then a 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD. It originally had 4GB of RAM until I upgraded to 6GB when I sold my Late 2011 13" MacBook Pro. The temps are alright expect if I'm playing a game or lay it on a soft surface that long, I can get 50C on idle to 95C while heavily used on the Intel Core i5-2520M processor.
It's also my first laptop that I ever had a huge repair failure on, I accidentally removed the thermal pad on the Nvidia Quardo GPU while trying to replace the bottom chassis while it doesn't need to be replaced but I have very huge OCD about the crack near the AC jack. I almost pinched the speaker cables too but I got it all working since I put everything back in place. We all make mistakes, right? I really learned my lesson very hard while working on laptops and knowing that I need to take more precaution while working on them. I have these machines in the hospital that I volunteer too since they tend to use Dell computers there as I had worked on it's ancestors and decedents in the Latitude E series such as the E6400, E6410, E6430, and E6440.
I bought a extended battery for this back in May for my trip to New York back in June 2014. It lasted me for 2 months since I tend to plug it in while before I'm migrating from the ASUS to my custom build and swapping out power supplies for my build in July. During the PSU swap that the battery became toast so it caused me to use the standard one that it came with instead. I had also upgraded the palmrest to have a fingerprint reader and a NFC thing which is very useful especially with Windows 8.1. I had planned to upgrade the processor to a i7 and get another extended battery as well but as money goes and me getting a MacBook Pro Retina once couple months after I got a paid job so I won't consider it. BTW, this laptop was a good buy especially if you want to get a durable laptop as well.
When I considered myself giving this thing some cooper shims due to I had kept on complaining that this thing shuts down automatically when playing some games and rendering videos through Vegas and Movie Maker. So far after I put them in that I got very better temps on the GPU which had reached above 100*C which has a some sensor for that, luckily it doesn't shuts itself down no more.
